Applications
These tests are frequently done to monitor the condition of the powder before and after printing, to analyze powder size distribution and shape which affects the powder flowability, compaction and the behavior of powders during processing and application. Powder size will affect AM printing layer thickness, laser absorptivity and packing density. Other tests such as hall flow meter, tapped density, true density and powder flow resistance provide further insights on the performance and state of new or reused powder; whether tends to cake, or will flow readily or even as an indicator for absorbed moisture.
